East Africa: Uganda to Produce and Export Casein - 6 November 2011

UGANDA is set to become the first East and central African country to produce and export casein, a milk protein.Casein (pronounced kay-seen) is the predominant protein found in milk that makes up about 80% of the protein in cow's milk will be produced by Pearl Dairies. Read more here:

About Uganda

Uganda is a landlocked country bordered by Sudan, Kenya, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the United Republic of Tanzania and Rwanda. Uganda’s population has been growing at an average rate of 2.5-3.1 percent per annum, increasing from 12.6 million people in 1985 to 22.2 million in 2000 and to 34.5 million by the end of 2011. About 80 percent of the country’s total land area is arable, although it is estimated that only 30 percent is being productively utilized. The vegetation is mainly composed of savannah grasslands, woodlands, bush land and tropical rain forest. Read more here:
